External Hard Drives
Often used in addition to an
internal hard drive, external hard drives are portable storage devices that connect to a computer via a USB / FireWire interface. External hard drives offer an easy way of easily backing up music, photos, videos and other important data; they can also be used to transfer large files from one machine to another.
External hard-drives are most commonly available in two forms; Desktop hard drives & portable hard drives. Desktop hard drives are slightly bigger
(3.5 inch) than portable drives
Portable hard drives are smaller and, unlike desktop drives, they don’t need an external power supply to function as they source power through the computers USB/FireWire interface. External hard drives offer a relatively cheap way of backing up files as they’re available in large capacities such as
1TB (terabyte), 2TB and even 3TB.
