Internal power supply units (PSUs) usually cost under £75, even for powerful 630W products. We stock a range of ATX 12V internal supplies from leading brands such as Akasa, Antec and Startech. Search our range now to find a great deal on 430W, 450W, 530W, 630W and 850W+ PSUs. In addition, we carry a range of enterprise products from Cisco and other brands, for PSUs mated to switches and other storage / networking products.
While many buyers select ATX supplies with the highest wattage, it's wise to first to narrow down your selection based on a power supply’s efficiency rating. Look for units with “80 Plus” certification - meaning 80 percent the PSU's rated wattage is supplied as power to the PC, with the remaing 20% being lost as heat. 80 plus certification has different ratings within the standard, with 80 plus Gold and Platinum being the most efficient PSUs available.
It's also worth knowing that a desktop system's components - not the power supply itself - dictate its power consumption. So a 1000W supply does not automatically use more power than a 850W power supply, instead depending upon the draw from a PC's hardware, peripherals, motherboard and CPU components under load.
Look also for a PSU with 20+4 pin connectors, meaning that its supply can function either as a 20-pin connector or a 24-pin connector. Larger cooling fans - for example a 135mm fan on a 850 Watt PSU - also move more air while offer lower noise (dB) levels than cheaper small fan equipped units.
Fimally, look for modular power supplies, which offer an advantage over hard-wired versions in that you can add / remove cabling from the PSU to avoid cluttering your PC's internals.
