What is cashless catering?

Students (or their parents) pre-pay funds into an account at the school or via the Internet and are either issued with a unique, personalised smart card or place their finger on a reader at the point of sale to gain access to the funds and make purchases. In a similar fashion, vending machines can also be adapted to accept the card rather than coins.
