Samsung Galaxy S III Shipments Pass 10m Line
Date: 24th July 2012

Sales of Samsung's Galaxy S III smartphone have already exceeded 10m units, Shin Jong-kyun, head of the electronics giant's mobile unit, said on Sunday, quoted by South Korean news agency Yonhap.

Shin forecast last month that shipments of the third-generation line of Samsung's flagship mobile device would pass the 10m threshold by July. With such a milestone already achieved, Galaxy S III emerges as a top choice among consumers, faring way better than its predecessor, Galaxy S II, which needed more than twice as long to break the 10m barrier. The Korean tech major introduced the third version of the smartphone on 30 May. It rolled it out in the United States on 21 June and оn the domestic market on 25 June. Pre-orders for the coveted gadget reached 3 million.

According to Shin, consumers outside South Korea reacted far better to Galaxy S III than to Galaxy S II. The company expects its cell phones division to post higher profit on a sequential basis in the second quarter of 2012 on the back of that favourable reception. The unit recorded its best performance so far in the first quarter of this year, when its profit hit 4.3 trillion won, or approximately $3.75 billion. Samsung is due to unveil its second-quarter results on 27 July.

But the firm's appetite to sell more of the Galaxy S III by no means stops with the closing of the second quarter. Samsung is planning an aggressive marketing push between now and the autumn of the model, which already wears the title of official phone of the upcoming Olympic Games in London
