Global Market For Enterprise Mobile Services To Be Worth $340bn By 2017

Global revenues attributable to enterprise mobile services will reach $340 billion by 2017, according to the latest estimates from ABI Research.

This figure includes revenues from voice, messaging, phone data plans, mobile broadband, enterprise applications and management services. The business segment of the mobile services market is forecast to grow at double the rate of the consumer segment and, since it accounts for more than 30% of the total market, mobility suppliers are strongly advised to pay heed, ABI enterprise practice director Dan Shey said. The expansion in the business segment is being driven by the BYOD (bring your own device) trend, more specifically the widespread use of smartphones. In order to capitalise on market opportunities, suppliers must devise strategies to meet the business and personal needs of corporate workforces by providing them with suitable apps and services, Shey noted.

In North America and Western Europe, smartphone penetration within the enterprise customer base is expected to exceed 90%. And while penetration levels are still low in developing regions, the total number of employees using smartphones will be considerable. The rest of the world's regions account for more than 70% of the enterprise mobile subscriber base.

By way of advice to mobile operators, ABI suggests innovation in the areas of packaging and pricing, making it easier for people using personal devices for work to find business content or upgrade with ease to enterprise-ready devices. In the case of device manufacturers, ABI recommends developing a portfolio of enterprise-ready handsets, pre-loaded with the necessary security features and business apps. IT and platform suppliers are advised to establish strong partnerships to cope with the growing demand and to make sure that their solutions can take care of vertical needs.
