Over 70 IT manufacturers and suppliers took part in Misco’s annual customer Expo, the event that showcases the latest’s IT innovations available to large enterprises and SME’s. The event, now in its third consecutive year, was held at Old Billingsgate, London on the 1st of October and was once again sponsored by Dennis publishing. Over 900 business customers from the public and private sector attended, making it the most successful Misco Expo to date. The event was entertaining, informative and enjoyable for everyone who attended. Stuart Picknell from Chalkwell Hall Junior School in Southend said, ‘I found the Expo informative and well laid out. There was a good cross section of technology/manufacturers without the usual 'pushy' sales people trying to get in your face and flog something you don't want and can't afford! Well Done! Bring on 2009!’
New to the Expo this year was the Misco ESP (Enterprise Business Solutions) Zone, a dedicated area where customers could meet with IT professionals offering advice to help make informed decisions on mission-critical IT infrastructure solutions from data protection and asset disposal to server consolidation and security solutions.
Kerry Wright, UK SMB Partner Manager from Symantec commented, ‘I thought this was extremely successful. Symantec were in the ESP zone and we were able to talk around not only our commercial product set but also some of our enterprise solutions. It was great to see the clear interest from the Small and Medium Business customer base in archiving and backup solutions. In this day and age, solutions such as archiving are not only necessary for our enterprise customers but also are important now in the SMB space and it is fantastic to see that Misco recognize this and offer an end to end Symantec solution which scales to each individual customer.’
Topical keynote seminars were delivered by Apple on Running a business from a Mac; Microsoft on Business Server 2008; HP on Document Management and Printing Solutions; CA on Piracy and Plunder on the Internet and Citrix on Fresh Dimensions in the World of Virtualisation.
The Misco Expo was followed in the evening by the annual Star Awards, an event hosted by celebrity comedian Omid Djalili, one of Britain's top stand-up comedians and actors. The Star Awards celebrate the support and commitment of Misco’s vendors by category. Best Overall Vendor 2008 went to Netgear and Best Overall Distributor 2008 went to Ingram Micro. HP had a great evening scooping two category awards for PCs & Servers and Printers & Peripherals.
Sandy Price, Misco UK General manager commented, ‘I am delighted to see so many of our partners and customers supporting this event. This is the third year we have organised the Expo in conjunction with the Star Awards both of which are now well established in the IT calendar. The Misco Expo is a great opportunity to liaise with our customers in a more relaxed and less formal manner and allows them to provide invaluable feedback about our products and services. Likewise the Star Awards allows us to show our appreciation and thanks to our vendors for investing and partnering with Misco. I look forward to next year’s events.’
Misco won the 2007 ECMOD Catalog Awards for the category B2B Computing & Communications.
The ceremony was held 5 March, at the Natural History Museum in London. Representing Misco to receive the award was Joanna Bailey, Manager Database Marketing, who was very pleased to win stating, “Misco had phenomenal growth in 2007 and a great success story to submit. This is the first time Misco has entered the competition and we are just thrilled with winning.”
The ECMOD (European Catalogue Mail Order Days) Awards categories are designed to reflect multi-channel, catalogue producing and online retailing organisations serving business or consumer customers and are now based on merchandise categories.
The criteria are many-fold. Unlike others, the ECMOD Awards are not merely about creative execution. It is the entire business performance and progress achieved during the year that is taken into account too with special focus on branding consistency across all channels and in all customer communications. Customer service quality, effectiveness of catalogues, websites, mailings, email marketing communications, PR, customer recruitment and retention programmes, all come under scrutiny.
