From bargain basement to high-end home cinema centrepiece, HD TVs fall into distinct price categories. Gone are the days when you had to fork out well over £1000 for an HD TV; as the technology has matured and prices have continued to drop.
Please note these prices are intended as a guideline and are correct at the time of writing. For the lowest available current prices check out our best HD TV offers.
In today's marketplace it is increasingly more common to find 26" HD ready LCD TVs for under £300 from less well-known brands. These offer the ideal solution to those wishing to dip their toe in the market without breaking the bank. Bigger brands are catching on to the trend of lower priced HD ready LCDs and are not far behind, though expect to pay at least 20% more than you would for the relatively unknown brands.

LCD TVs
A 32" HD ready LCD TV can currently cost as little as £300, though again you would expect to pay more for the better-known brands. Prices can vary greatly from one brand to another, and even within a brand there is wide variation.
37" HD ready LCD TVs are currently available for less than £500, again there is much variation on the pricing scale depending on the brand.
Reading reviews before you buy is a great way of finding the true value-for-money offers, since a high price tag doesn’t necessarily equate to the highest quality product. Some of our best feedback has been from customers who have purchased one of our lower priced HD ready LCD TVs, which they have described as being just as good quality as the more expensive versions on the market.
"Ordered the goods on Sunday evening. E-mail on Monday morning saying order had been dispatched. Received goods on Tuesday morning at 09:30 Excellent service. This was on standard postage. The goods are also excellent value for money."
"Delivered one day late. Postage was refunded by misco [cheers] without me asking. This tv is stunning, its easy to set up its a quality product. You could spend more on a sony or a samsung etc. A friend of mine has a forty inch sony and the picture quality isn’t as good as this one, and this has two years warranty thrown in. If your thinking about buying this tv do it you won't regret it. Well done Misco!"
Plasma TVs
Plasma TVs tend to cost more than an equivalently sized LCD TV. Moreover you should take into consideration the additional costs that a plasma TV will possibly incur, including the delivery cost for heavy goods, as well as the potential cost of installation if you intend on having it wall-mounted.
37" plasmas currently cost around £700 or even less depending on the make and model. 42" plasmas are on average around £1000.
As with all these guidelines, if you search hard enough you may come across much lower prices, but those kind of offers tend to sell out fast. If you would like to be one of the first to hear about them, why not subscribe to our eDeals?
